How will you read through a Hull ID Number?
The Hull Identification Amount (HIN) is usually a twelve- or 14-character serial amount that uniquely identifies a boat. The HIN is analogous to some VIN on a vehicle.
The primary 3 digits will be the Manufacturer’s Identification Code (ex. Boat model such as Sea Ray, Meridian, and so on.). The four digits following that would be the company’s serial range to the boat. The third and 4th digits with the conclude would be the day of manufacture. The letter around the date of your manufacture corresponds for the thirty day period of the year, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so on. The last two digits in the HIN range depict the product year.
All boats manufactured or imported on or after November 1, 1972, need to bear a HIN, and this HIN have to be discovered in the course of boat registration. Vessels produced or imported in advance of 1972 are EXEMPT because they often do not need a HIN.
The HIN is discovered over a metal or plastic plate, usually over the transom on the boat, normally hull id number on the appropriate starboard (suitable) side of the transom within two inches of the best of transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is most affordable.
On vessels with out transoms, or impractical to use transoms, the HIN will likely be affixed to your starboard (proper) outboard aspect of hull, aft, in a person foot of the stern and in two inches of the best of the hull side, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is cheapest.
